One with nature on Gili Trawangan island
Every day on this tiny Indonesian island feels like a dream. After cycling through the jungle to the northern tip of the island, we make our way back to the southern tip for sunset. It’s possible to cycle around the entire island in a few hours. Sitting under a tree, we watch the burning red sun sink towards the horizon while listening to the rhythmic drum beat from local musicians nearby.

Away from the main strip, there’s no network coverage, so you are completely disconnected – from the digital world. Instead, you are completely connected with nature and the real environment surrounding you.

A tooting jingle can be heard every few minutes, announcing a horse and cart coming along the forested path that wraps around the island. The only way to get round the island is on foot, by bicycle, or by horse and cart.

Everywhere you walk, there are either trees or the ocean. At night, the entire galaxy watches over you, the Milky Way clearly visible with the majority of the island devoid of unnatural lighting. The only light is from the moon.
